9600GT underperforming

Hi All,

I got a 9600GT 1gb card recently and was shocked to see that the core shader and memory are lesser in my card than the default values.

The default for this card is Core-650,Shader 1625 and Memory 900

But my card shows Core 600,Shader 1500 and Memory 700

I had logged a case with XFX and they came back to me saying this particular part number has only 600,1500 and 700 as specs.


My 1st question to the experts is :

Is this difference very big on performance or is it negligible?

2nd:

What is the safe overclock I can do for this card?

3rd:

Is this a low quality card?

Hi Anand,

I saw the default values in every website.All of them said they default clock and other config for this card was 650,1625 and 900.I never knew so many versions of same model would be there.

They may be incorrect. You should only trust the official website. Have you used GPU-Z?

Yes,I have used GPU-Z.it also shows 600,1500 and 700 and also I logged a case with XFX support team and they said this card has 600,1500 and 700 only.

My only question is whether the difference between Core 650-600 and Shader 1625-1500 and Memory 900-700 make any big difference in performance??

Well it will obviously make a difference but it won't be large. You can also try for Overclocking the Core. If XFX is saying then it is the correct one. However, I don't think so overclocking the memory is required for a game like Ashes Cricket but you can still try.
